You guys know I love Quin Rose games. I love their limited edition stuff and I love how they are gradually improving their systems BUT I feel like they are starting to cut corners in places that I ENJOYED them for.
1. Games are getting shorter - I started 24ji on Sunday and now it's Tuesday and I've fully completed 2 characters already. The thing is, first half of each route almost made me fall asleep. It's like nothing interesting was happening then when the guy finally gives a crap about Rosalia, things pick up.
2. Cutting corners with their comics - The biggest reason I'd keep buying QR limited editions is because of the comics. Instead now it's 1 comic and 3 short stories. I never read the short stories. I hate reading kanji vertically it burns my eyes. While in the past I had wanted to buy from the QR shop, their shop tokutens are now 1 story and 1 comic....not worth the extra $40 I have to pay for a 3rd party to order it for me. Additionally I think I will cancel my limited edition school wars and get the regular version...1 comic about a poodle (or whatever dafuq) isn't worth the extra $30...
3. Adding REALLY crazy shit in their games that I'd only ever expect in like a hiyo game or Otomate. Without giving too much spoilers, let's just say Bremen in Grimm and the Confinement End in Toybox Alice. I knew QR had a dark edge to them but they never really hurt the heroine in a way to make her suffer. She'd just be killed and that's it. Now they're adding creepers that I thought I'd avoid in QR games...
I was all excited about QR's games as I jumped on the bandwagon this year but while I think systematically they are headed in the right direction, the stuff they were best known for is starting to fade away.
Also it's like 2012 almost 2013. I wish they'd
a) Add some wide screen wallpapers. Who the hell even uses a square monitor anymore
b) CONTINUE adding vertical banners after Hyakki. It's like they listened to my request with Hyakki, then decided "well we did it once back to our old HORIZONTAL BANNER TEMPLATE" like it's 1999 Geocities.
Anyway I was ready to throw my money at them but now I'm getting a bit wary and holding on to my wallet. Let's hope the upcoming games are an improvement on the situation...
